Keir started stand up in April 2004 when he entered the Dundee heat of the Jongleurs J20 Last Laugh Competition. Despite it being his first ever gig, he won and went on to win the Scottish final and found himself doing his third ever gig to over 1000 people in London’s Criterion Theatre, Piccadilly Circus. He came runner up. 

Keir went on to have a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe 2004 with a show called Rehab’s for Quitter’s where he teamed up with comedy partner Paul Pirie. The following year he was part of the sell out show Scotland 4 Australia 1 in the Glasgow Comedy Festival which went on to have a further very successful run in the Edinburgh Fringe 2005. He and Paul Pirie also hosted their own late night comedy show. 

Keir has gigged all over Scotland and the UK and can be seen regularly working for people like The Stand, Breakneck and Stand Out Comedy Clubs. He has also had a string of successful festival shows. In  2012 Keir teamed up with Scottish comedy legend Vladimir McTavish for the sell out show Keir McAllister and Vladimir McTavish Look at the State of Scotland and they followed that up with Look at the State of Britain in 2013. In 2015 Vlad and Keir won the award for Best Live Show for their 2014 referendum satire Aye Right How No at the Scottish Comedy Awards. In the same year Keir won Best Comedy Writer. He was then nominated and won the same prize in 2016 along with Best TV/Radio Comedian for Breaking The News. Keir continues to work with Vladimir McTavish on their monthly political satire show Topical Storm the pair are joined by Stu Murphy and Mark Nelson to look at the crazy world of politics and beyond at The Stand Comedy Club Edinburgh. 

Keir has also played gigs at T in the Park, Belladrum, and Wickerman festivals and toured much of Scotland and the Highlands with the NHS sponsored “Walk in My Shoes” Tour – which included such eclectic venues as Barlinnie Prison and a charity shop in Dingwall . 

As a writer Keir has performed on a range of shows including - BBC’s Breaking The News, Jo Caulfield’s The Good Bad and The Unexpected and Janice Foryth's Culture Studio on Radio Scotland. He also recorded in concert for Radio 4's Speakeazy and Radio 4's Comedy Extra. Keir also writes for a number of other radio shows, (Breaking The News, Wired News, Karen Dunbar’s Summer Supplement) TV show’s (Mock the Week, Stand Up for the Week, Russell Howard’s Good News) and an array of comedians and comedy productions. He has a number of plays under his belt; Hindsight, premiered at the Assembly Rooms during the Fringe 2013 directed by Phil Differ and starring Raymond Mearns, James Kirk & Paul Sneddon. Hindsight went on to do 4 special performances in HMP Barlinnie before returning for the Glasgow International Comedy Festival in 2014 at the Oran Mor. McAllister then brought a new offering to the Fringe in 2014; A Split Decision, a play written in verse, about the Scottish Referendum. 2015 saw the launch of feminist comedy  The Last Laugh at the Edinburgh Fringe which went on to garner great reviews and a subsequent tour in Spring 2016. McAllister returned to the stage in 2018 with his hit play The Bench written, produced and performed by McAllister alongside long term collaborator Paul Sneddon in the part of Sandy. The Bench garnered rave reviews, going on to a national tour and was subsequently published by Josef Weinberger in early 2019.
